River Sessions

Every week there are two river sessions on the Thames, usually run by the captain. They are on Wednesdays starting at 2pm and Saturdays starting at 1pm.

What we do in sessions depends on the weather and water levels, but you can count on having a good time even if we just visit the local pub! Sessions can include everything from polo practice, skills, games, introduction to friendly bits of whitewater at the weirs…or just a few pints.

We are a very friendly bunch of people and the sessions are very laid back with everyone always welcome.

Almost all of our sessions are followed by a social, this might be a night out at the union, a pub crawl, a game of bowling or laser quest, a few quiet drinks or maybe something else. These are optional though, if you’ve got an idea, then let the social secs or another member of the committee know.

Hopefully see you paddling soon!!!

What to bring

– Towel.
– Clothes you don’t mind getting wet + swim wear. Maybe a wetsuit for winter months, the club has some if you need to borrow one.
– Shoes you don’t mind getting wet that can be tied on to your feet.
– Warm dry clothes and shoes for when you get off of the river.

We paddle from the Wokingham Waterside Centre, which is near Thames Valley Park.

For the first few weeks of term, there’ll be a walking bus from the RUSU car park leaving half an hour before the session.

How to get there
Walking: Leave campus via the Foxhill House entrance. Walk down Eastern Avenue and turn left onto Wokingham Road and then right onto London Road. Turn left at the end of London Road and take the first turning off the roundabout. Follow the road along till you reach the centre.
