The committee is responsible for bringing the correct kit and the right amount of kit on club trips. Make sure that you know precisely how many people are coming on the trip and what equipment they may require - often you will not be 100% sure of this before the day you depart, be prepared to add or remove kit as necessary at the last minute. Add up the numbers of people going on the trip and make a list of quantities of things required. Be sure to take spare kit too, it's suprising how much can get mislaid or damaged on a trip.
The following items need to be taken for each individual paddler:
Paddles - make sure there are left-handed paddles for left-handed people, as well as plenty of right-handed ones
Decks - check that they fit the club boats as some are made for smaller cockpits than others
Helmets - make sure they all have the correct fittings and the buckles work
Bouncy aids - Use the newest ones first
Booties, thermals, wetsuits - bring all that you deem necessary, more will be needed for trips in the first term
Boats - assign people to appropriate boats well in advance of the trip
Cags - very important that every paddler has a cag, even if it is only a semi-dry one
Other essential equipment and items the club will need:
Split paddles - check that the right sections are kept together
First aid kits - make sure they contain everything they should and that items are within date
Throwlines - check they are all tied correctly and not damaged before you leave
Yellow boxes - containing cleaning kit and basic food items like teabags, make sure these have been refilled
Maps - each bus/club vehicle should have a decent road atlas. If you haven't got one, buy one!
Thermos flasks - make sure they are clean before you leave Reading
Dry bags - useful for people who wish to carry thermos flasks/first aid kits but don't have one themselves
Chocolate - Encourage people to buy mars bars etc individually, but keep a club supply in case people forget
You might also want to consider...
Jack - for the trailer and for the bus (make sure it's there)(the jack for the bus is often not appropriate for the trailer)
Hazard warning triangle - all vehicles should have one
First aid kits on the bus - all union buses should already have one
Spare fuel can - useful!
Spare straps - it's amazing what might get lost
Repair items - such as gaffer tape and aquasure
If you can think of anything else, let us know!
